Newmarket Town 1

Thurlow Youth 4

TYFC
This was the first outing for the youngsters that will be representing Thurlow Youth at under 8's for season 2008/2009. Right from the first whistle the boys looked as if they had been playing together for ages rather than taking to the field for their maiden match.
The opener came from a William Moe clearance which found Toby Egan, Egan’s first touch was excellent as was his pass which was then smashed home by Finley Plant. Thurlow looked solid from then on controlling proceedings for the first quarter and came off at the interval holding a much deserved lead.
At this age group the match is divided into four periods and Newmarket entered the second period with a lot more purpose. Resolute defending from Moe and great awareness from Yagir between the sticks was keeping Newmarket at bay but there was nothing they could do when a free-kick awarded just outside the goal area was superbly thundered home by Newmarket.

Zac Luff looked strong in a defensive midfield role while Finley Burton give an attacking threat. Finley Dray now started to boss proceedings winning the ball and using it sensibly. It was Tom Turner who restored the lead after good work from Dray and Connor Wood's pass.
The Newmarket Town goal came under siege in the third period with the keeper saving well twice, first Greig was denied as he latched onto Egan’s through ball then Dray’s spectacular mazy run and unselfish pass found Egan whose shot was parried away. Cameron Greig hit the third soon after set up by the impressive Finley Plant. Moment’s later provider turned saviour as Plant cleared off of his own goal line.
The icing on the cake was provided by Tayfun Yagir who came out of goal for the final period and scored a fine solo effort. After winning the ball on the halfway line he calmly finished to make the final score 4-1 to Thurlow.
